The highland and lowland landscapes of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park are popular with walkers, hikers, cyclists, nature and history buffs and MacGregors in search of their famous outlaw ancestor, Rob Roy MacGregor. It is crisscrossed with roads that make it ideal for touring.

The good news for active, environmentally aware visitors who want to minimize their carbon footprint - or simply folks who are worried about driving on the left in Britain - is that you can get around easily without a car.

The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park service issues an 88-page, free annual guide, Exploring the National Park by ferry, bus or train, with timetables and contact details for a range of services, including:

  • bus operators
  • rail operators
  • ferries
  • cruises
  • taxi companies registered with the National Park
There is actually a remarkable range of regular services and even roads served by Postbuses are included.

Free Travel

By the way, older or disabled visitors who live in Scotland or have a second home there, are entitled to free travel on public transportation all over Scotland. If you qualify, contact your local authority or Strathclyde Passenger Transport (on 0845 601 6499) for details.
