Sightseeing in the UK - An Even Dozen "Must-See" Places in the United Kingdom

UK Top Destinations -The Unmissable Sights of Great Britain

From Ferne Arfin, About.com

What are the top British Travel destinations the, hands down, best places to visit in the UK? Recently, all the UK papers buzzed with discussions of an online survey to find the most iconic sightseeing symbols of Britain. As you might expect, everybody had their own ideas about what places, people and things were unmistakable images of the real United Kingdom. For a few days, people in offices, in pubs and on buses made lists and compared notes with each other.

Of course, I made a sightseeing list too. I listed places I like to return to again and again. Then I listed places my foreign visitors enjoy or ask to be taken to, or remember fondly. Finally, I eliminated London places. London has so many iconic sights and things to do of its own that visitors sometimes overlook the other "must-see" places scattered all over the United Kingdom.

This, then, is my highly subjective sightseeing list.
